This course concentrates on the four main areas within the music industry.
Musicianship: This is concerned with your improvement as a musician. You will develop knowledge of theory and also become a better player.
Units in this area:
- Aural Perception Skills
- Listening Skills for Music Technologists
- Music Theory and Harmony
- Music Performance Techniques
Performance: You will learn about how to choose a balanced repertoire, good practice and rehearsal schedules along with working to a timescale. You will be a member of one of the several groups that we form every year and will take part in regular performances.
Units in this area:
- Contemporary Songwriting Techniques
- Working and Developing as a Musical Ensemble
Technology: What's the use of getting a good band together, working hard and then producing a weak demo? You will learn how to record successfully and to understand just what to use as demo material.
Units in this area:
- Music Production Techniques
- Sequencing Systems and Techniques
Industry: Who does what in the music industry? Learn about why you need a manager or an agent, what the A&R department will do for you, the benefits and pitfalls that await artists and (most importantly) how to earn money from your music.

- The Sound and Music Industry
This is a Study Programme and priority will be given to students who are 16-18 years of age.
To study a Level 3 qualification, you will need:
A minimum of 5 GCSEs at Grades 4-9 including English and/or Maths (or L2 Functional Skills in English and/or Maths)
OR
A relevant Level 2 qualification and English or Maths at Grade 4 or above (or L2 Functional Skills in English and/or Maths)

This study programme is free for students, who are aged 16-18 on 31 August, and students aged 19-24 with an Education, Health & Care Plan.
If you are aged 19 or over:
If you are aged 19+ and living in the Liverpool City Region (inc Wirral), many courses will be free. If you are aged 19+ and live outside the Liverpool City Region, this course may be free. Terms & conditions apply.
If you are aged 19+, you may be able to apply for a 19+ Advanced Learner Loan (which is available for this course).
