Allowing you to earn whilst you learn, an Apprenticeship will provide you with valuable workplace and industry experience whilst gaining a qualification. From level 2 through to degree apprenticeships, Wirral Met offers a wide range of apprenticeship programmes across the Liverpool City Region.
Working with over 500 public and private sector organisations, Wirral Met believes that apprenticeships are a great way to give people of all ages an opportunity to progress further in their chosen careers.
What is an Apprenticeship?
- A paid job allowing you to develop skills, technical knowledge & behaviours
- A way to develop your career and gain experience in your chosen industry
- A means to progress to a higher level position
Who can become an Apprentice?
To become an apprentice, you need to either apply for an apprenticeship vacancy or find an employer who is keen to take on an apprentice. You also need to be aged 16 or over and live in England.
You can apply for an apprenticeship as your first step on the career ladder following your studies or as a means to changing careers. You can also explore an apprenticeship to upskill within your current employment – it’s worth having the conversation with your employer.
Whatever stage you are at there is an apprenticeship level to support you.

What levels of Apprenticeship are available?
- Level 2 (Equivalent to 5 GCSE Passes at Grades A*/9 to C/4)
- Level 3 (Equivalent to 2 A Level Passes)
- Level 4 & 5 (Equivalent to a Foundation Degree and HNC/D)
- Level 6 (Equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree)
- Level 7 (Equivalent to a Master's Degree)
How will Wirral Met College support me during my Apprenticeship?
- If you have a learning difference or disability, you can take advantage of a range of additional learning support services which can include personal 1-1 support, eg for those who have dyslexia,
- If you are under 25 and have been in local authority care, we can help you get a £1000* Care Leaver's Bursary from the Government when you start your apprenticeship,
- You can save money with NUS Apprentice and NUS Apprentice extra cards,
- You have access to half price rail travel if you’re aged 16-24 and live in the Liverpool City Region,
- You can download the TalkCampus app to support your mental health,
*£3000 from the 1st August 2023
How do I get an Apprenticeship?

How will I study?
How you study will depend on the apprenticeship, as well as the employer. You may attend College one day a week, alternatively you may complete all of your studying within the workplace, or do a combination of the two!
