We are delighted to once again be taking part in Visitor Economy Week, to raise the profile and celebrate the diverse employment opportunities within the visitor economy sector.

First launched in 2015, Visitor Economy Week provides exciting opportunities for students to learn about the wealth of career opportunities in the Visitor Economy. The vibrant and rapidly growing Visitor Economy encompasses a wide range of industries supporting tourism including hotels, restaurants and bars, culture, entertainment and travel.

From Hairdressing, Beauty Therapy & Wellbeing, Hospitality & Catering to Travel & Tourism, Wirral Met offers an extensive range of study programmes to support careers across this growing sector.

The week-long celebration will include events involving school children, students, teachers, parents and employers.

Here’s a snapshot of what Wirral Met has planned…

VE Dinner and Celebration – 3 Feb

The week will start with a VE Dinner and celebration hosted by The Richmond Hotel. Wirral Met, alongside six other colleges will work together to prepare, cook and serve dinner.

Internal Culinary Arts Competition Finals – 3 Feb

The culmination of a number of heats, the finalists of Wirral Met’s internal competition will create a Japanese themed main course, inspired by this year’s Summer Olympics hosted in Japan. Hospitality and catering students will create and serve the winning dishes at a theme night later in the year.

Junior Bake Off – 4 Feb

Short-listed finalists from local secondary schools will present their bakes to a panel of judges. Hosted in Birches Restaurant, these young bakers are invited to create a bake which best represents a Wirral Transport through the ages. For example, did you know that the world’s first passenger hovercraft service ran between Wallasey and Rhyl?

Young Hair Stylist and Makeup Artist of the Year – 5 Feb

Year 11 students who have a passion for styling hair or applying makeup are invited to create a “summer festival” look. The talented winners will have the opportunity to attend a masterclass to further develop their skills, take home products and have professional-standard photographs of their creation to start off their portfolio.

Paul Askew Masterclass – 5 Feb

Former Wirral Met student and alumni Paul Askew, who is Chef Patron of The Art School Restaurant and one of the North West’s most popular chefs, will be providing a Masterclass to catering students.
