Students from Wirral Met College are collaborating with Future Yard to create a series of limited-edition posters for touring bands.
Future Yard is a 300-capacity arts venue in Birkenhead. This community space brings exciting new national and international artists to Wirral, while also providing key early performance opportunities for emerging local musicians.
Students on Wirral Met’s Illustration and Animation degree are teaming up with the venue to create posters advertising touring bands. The project will enable students to show off their creativity and experiment with different screen-printing and illustration techniques. Each poster design will be displayed at Future Yard and made available to purchase.
The project began when music journalist and venue co-owner Christopher Torpey met with students to talk through their ideas and future opportunities.
So far, students have designed and created gig posters for Jim Ghedi, Robocobra Quartet and Hanya, with many more to come over the coming months.
Principal Sue Higginson said: “We are delighted to be supporting Future Yard, who are making a huge difference in Birkenhead. Partnerships like this are integral to our careers-led curriculum. It offers students a real opportunity to hone their skills for the future and showcase their creativity in the local community.”
The current artwork on display, created by our students, will be up at Future Yard until 9 November 2022.
