Wirral Met students from Carpentry and Joinery have been gaining valuable hands on experience at a national trade kitchen supplier.

Students from Level 1 and 2 Carpentry and Joinery, as well as T Level Onsite Construction – Carpentry and Joinery have been taking part in a project with Howden’s Bromborough to construct a kitchen in their showroom.

Our learners from Wirral Waters have been applying their knowledge and skills developed at Wirral Met College in the work environment, dismantling and installing a kitchen.

Students were taught essential both practical and theoretical, such as cutting worktops, using industry standard equipment, and the benefit of organisation and management.

This hands-on experience offered students great skills for their CV as well as developing their opportunities for future employment.

Chris Butler, a T Level Onsite Construction – Joinery and Carpentry student said “I like that the schedule is split into classwork and getting experience from the workshop as well.”

Introduced in September 2022, Wirral Met College currently runs three T-Level courses, with an additional five to be offered from September 2023.

Equivalent to 3 A levels in UCAS points, T Levels provide a high-quality, technical alternative to A Levels by combining classroom learning with a 45-day industry placement.

The courses are endorsed and designed with employers and provide an opportunity to continue studying while gaining broader insight into what it is like to work in a certain sector, with the opportunity to specialise coming later.

All T Levels at Wirral Met have been chosen to align with the local, regional and national demand for skills and are perfect for setting you on the path to a job or further study at college or university.
