The second Liverpool City Region Visitor Economy Week takes place this February with a fantastic line up of events from Colleges in Liverpool. Partnered with Mersey Travel and sponsored by Liverpool ONE the region has a great range of events from 6th-9th February 2017 with many other organisations across the sector involved.

Visitor Economy Week, 6th-9th February poster Wirral Met an FE college have a variety of events available providing a taste of what it can be like working in the Visitor Economy sector. Wirral based events will showcase courses from hospitality, health and beauty, retail and travel and tourism designed to show the progression from college into workplace or university. 

The City Region Visitor Economy generates a staggering £4.1 billion and Wirral Met College provide vital opportunities for students to develop their skills and be at the forefront of the sector. 

Mersey Travel are launching Visitor Economy week at their head office followed by a number of activities from each College during week from around the region. On Tuesday 7th February there are three exciting activities. The Familiarisation trip offers students a tour of some top attractions on the Wirral, first a visit to Port Sunlight then a walk around Claremont Farmfollowed by a trip to the seaside to visit Shore Cottage Studio. Lunch takes place at the Luxury 5* Hillbark Hotel with visits also planned to Caffe Cream in New Brighton and Benty Farm Tea rooms in Thurstaston. The final stop of the day is at the Floral Pavilion with the tour being led by Wirral Met Travel and Tourism students.

Other events for Tuesday include the Port Sunlight Village open day and Wirral Young Chef heat which showcases the best young chefs in Wirral as they compete to win the Young Chef of the Year 2017 title at Leverhulme Hotel.

On Wednesday 8th February, Swissport International the leading aviation and service provider are working in partnership with Wirral Met Tourism students with interactive sessions and career opportunities across the growing industry.

Wirral Young Bake Off will be judged by Lorna Tyson and James Hutcheson from Mere Brook Housewho will make the final decision and announce the winner on the day.

The exciting opportunities continue further into Visitor Economy week with Wirral Met Hair and Beauty students competing in a makeover challenge on Thursday 9th with industry specialist talks taking place afterwards.

The final event is a photography competition with student’s images from around the Wirral being displayed and judge Paul Jones will announce the winner. The week’s closing dinner will be held at Signature Living’s football themed Shankly Hotel, in Liverpool city centre to celebrate the events from the week.

Wirral Met College is working with other colleges and the Local Enterprise Partnership’s Visitor Economy team to encourage students to consider the Visitor Economy sector as a career choice.
