Funding for adult further education courses starting from September 2019 is now being managed through the Combined Authority and this brings good news for Liverpool City Region residents who earn less than £17,550.

Adults who want to gain qualifications to help them earn more money and improve their standard of living can study on a part-time basis to fit in their course around work and family commitments. For example, from September 2019, someone earning £17,550 or less could choose to study towards a level two AAT accountancy course either for one day or two evenings per week. With hard work and commitment to their studies, level two students could quickly progress to level three and four qualifications and be fast tracked to becoming a professional accountant at level four within three years.

Alternatively, someone wanting to become a manager and earn more money could initially study towards the ILM leadership and team skills level two qualification to help them become a team leader and then progress to leadership and management courses at levels three and four to support them becoming a manager.

Employers will also reap the benefits as they can support their employees to study on a part-time basis to gain qualifications, to facilitate internal progression opportunities. It is a well-known fact that it is far more cost effective to retain and promote employees than to recruit new staff. Training and development supports employee motivation and loyalty and is a great tool for succession planning by developing employees with the skills required for the organisation’s specific needs.

The opportunities for those on low incomes are incredible. Wirral Met offers a wide range of level two courses (which are the equivalent to GCSEs) leading to professional qualifications including hairdressing and beauty therapy, digital and computing technology, fitness instructing, leadership and team skills, supporting teaching and learning in schools and welding. Pre-access to Higher Education (HE) courses at level two also support adults in progressing to Access to HE and university level courses in health and social care, humanities and social science and health and social care.

Use our Course Explorer to look for full-time or part-time courses which you can fit around work or family commitments. Further details are also available from Student Services on 0151 551 7777.
