India Ikonomides, Marketing Coordinator

India completed her level 3 apprenticeship in 2016 and has since worked for large public sector organisations, an industry leading private sector SME and currently works as a Marketing Coordinator in Wirral Met College's busy marketing team.

"Apprenticeships are a brilliant stepping stone in to a wide range of sectors. The experience I gained whilst an apprentice has allowed me to secure permanent roles in both public and private sectors. After gaining experience for 6 years, I'm now completing a degree level apprenticeship (level 6) with hopes that it will help me to progress further in my career."

Meet Michael Bayley, Apprentice Electrician

Michael started his apprenticeship in 2019, working as an Apprentice Electrician at Magenta Living - the Wirral's largest registered housing provider.

"The apprenticeship has given me a chance to become a fully qualified electrician. I hope to qualify and continue to work in the industry."

Dr Natalie Kenny, BioGrad

World-renowned clinical and laboratory training provider BioGrad works with Wirral Met College to provide apprenticeships. Dr Natalie Kenny, BioGrad's Director and Chief Scientific Officer said:

"The amazing thing about apprentices, is that we get to train them in-house. So within a few months, we see that they are developing to an undergraduate level. Our hopes are that they will stay with us and develop their skills as our company expands."

Robert Green, Administrator

Robert completed his level 3 apprenticeship in 2019 and now works as an Administrator in Wirral Met College's busy Employer Services team in a full-time role.

"My apprenticeship gave me a great opportunity to gain valuable knowledge and experience within an administration role. It also provided a route into full-time employment."

Paige Campbell, Adult Care Worker Apprentice

Paige started a level 2 Care apprenticeship in 2018, working as an Adult Care Worker at Arrowe Park Hospital and won Apprentice of the Year in 2019.

"Without the experience and qualifications that I have gained I wouldn’t have been able to expand to go on to an Access to Nursing course"

  • Who can become an apprentice?

    To become an apprentice, you must be:

    • Aged 16 or over,
    • Living in England,
    • Not taking part in full-time education,
    • Working and have a contract of employment.

    If you are already employed, you can start an apprenticeship in your current job to help you progress to a higher level position.

  • How will I study?

    How you study will depend on the apprenticeship, as well as the employer. You may attend College one day a week, alternatively you may complete all of your studying within the workplace, or do a combination of the two!

    If your apprenticeship programme requires you to attend College, you will study at one of our four campuses on the Wirral.
